Managers don’t have enough time and have too many people reporting to them to remember everything you did to help reach goals. But most teach little about the block and tackle work of negotiating SMART goals with your manager that makes sense for you. Most teach little on the lowly status report and how important it is to your personal view of your job performance. Your company teaches you the mechanics of writing your self-review, but not how to write it in a way that reflects your performance. Or why writing your self-review in a way that reflects your performance is so important to your overall rating.

SMART Goals

We report our performance through status reports - either written or verbal with our manager. Most of us don’t even realize that every time we do, we are killing our performance perception with our manager.
We look at the status report as administrivia - instead of the performance powerhouse reporting tool it is for us.

Writing your self-review for performance
In the end, performance reviews drive our salary, bonus, and stock awards. The performance review even controls our ability for promotion.
This important module teaches you the five strategies to maximize your performance review rating.
Then, the reasons you should write your self-review by explaining the normal performance review process - from the management viewpoint. This section teaches you how to fit your work into this (usually) hidden management process to maximize your position for getting the largest raise.
