Maximize Your Performance Review Rating — And Your Income

Brilliant Career Basics

You would think that using your job skills to do your manager’s work would be enough to give you the performance rating you deserve.

You’d be wrong.

Managers don’t have enough time and have too many people reporting to them to remember everything you did to help reach goals. Plus, companies standardize the goal setting and performance review process so they minimize the potential for lawsuits - and their payroll budget. The result is a performance review process that favors the company - not you.

Most employees don’t help their cause either: they meekly accept goals that are not good for their skills, fail to report their status in a way that shows their accomplishments and write a poor self-review. For some, they think this doesn’t matter. For others, they don’t know how to build goals, report their work and write their performance self-reviews. Their company didn’t teach them. And why would they?

Brilliant Career Basics trains you to maximize your rating

Most career management training focuses on skills, resumes, and interviews (and these will come to Warrior Boot Camp as well!). But most teach little about the block and tackle work of negotiating SMART goals with your manager that makes sense for you. Most teach little on the lowly status report and how important it is to your personal view of your job performance. Your company teaches you the mechanics of writing your self-review, but not how to write it in a way that reflects your performance. Or why writing your self-review in a way that reflects your performance is so important to your overall rating.

When companies train you how to fill out forms, you put yourself at the mercy of your manager for your rating, ranking - and income.

This module teaches you how to set up SMART goals for your performance review. Each portion of the SMART acronym has its own special traps for Cubicle Warriors. Brilliant Career Basics shows you these traps and how to resist each of them.
