Career Tips are Heard Here First

I heard it here first (http://www NULL.flickr NULL.com/photos/7851472 null@null N05/521774504)Now that the world is coming to an end, the traditional media is finally catching up to the fact that people are getting laid off. They know this because through September over 750,000 jobs were lost in 2008.

Now MarketWatch (http://www NULL.marketwatch NULL.com) gives us “Five signs you may be on the layoff list (http://www NULL.marketwatch NULL.com/news/story/five-warning-signs-your-job/story NULL.aspx?guid=%7bB5988E89-E115-4C8B-8789-424F7A563E1C%7d)” (links on the points are where you would have read about this on Cube Rules):

  1. Others are losing their jobs
  2. Hiring Freeze
  3. Training budgets cut, projects slow down
  4. Office Gossip
  5. Company is missing targets

And if you review the comments on the MarketWatch article, you will see why I love the people who comment here: they add to the conversation so we all learn more.

At least these traditional media points make some sense. Unlike bad career advice is worse than no advice at all.

Regardless, instead of reading traditional media to learn about managing your career after the disaster has already happened, consider subscribing or learning about membership in Cube Rules. Here, career advice for knowledge workers is the mission all the time.
