As I am writing this on Sunday morning, Kate and I are sitting in the Dublin, Ireland, airport awaiting our return flight to the United States. It’s been a great two weeks here in Ireland — a lot more than what we expected. The Irish people are famous for their hospitality and there was no shortage of that while we were here.
If someone would have told me five years ago that I’d be sitting in the Waterloo Pub in Dublin watching — and cheering for — Ireland playing Scotland in Rugby, I’d have told them they were crazy. But, that’s what we were doing last night in a packed pub. And even better news — Ireland won. It just goes to show you that can can plan all you want (like career planning), but you need to be open to opportunities as they come.
International travel provides great perspective on our work, our play and how we define our lives. It’s been a great trip and I’ll miss this place.
We’ll see Ireland again, I’m sure.
Update: Monday morning. We were up for 22-hours and sitting in coach for that long really sucks, but the jet lag going west was much less than going east. Today is a recovery day.
