I’ve been a long-time subscriber to Epic Living, by Eric Pennington, with his writing about the crossroads of life and work. I was really satisfied to learn that Eric recently published his book, Waking Up in Corporate America: The Seven Secrets That Opened My Eyes, and was eager to hear from Eric himself about the book.
This week, I’ve been interviewing Eric with a question a day — kicking off this past Monday with Part 1. It’s all about career management and personal growth, something near and dear to my heart. We’ll have the question, the answer, and some commentary as it relates to our work in cubes in this last question in our interview.
Question: In your book, Waking Up in Corporate America, you provide readers seven secret principles that helped you navigate and survive in corporate America. Many books built on successful principles require follow-up, re-reading and involvement by the reader. Will your readers be able to work with you on implementing these principles?
Eric Pennington: Yes. I’ll be holding one-day workshops in those areas where we feel the book has connected and done well. The workshop basically will unlock the “Seven Secrets” in detail. It will be a way for the reader to spend a day with me and discover how the secrets are applicable to their specific situation/career. The workshop is the logical step after reading the book.
Creating change in ourselves is a tough proposition — we almost always need reinforcement and support in what we are doing. I know that working on a discipline of improvement involves successes as well as setbacks that must be overcome.
Consequently, offering a follow-up seminar where the principles can be further explored is a great opportunity for readers.
I’d like to personally thank Eric for taking the time for this interview. It really is a lot of work behind the scenes to make an interview a success and Eric’s been a champion throughout the process.
And thanks to my readers — I try and offer differing viewpoints and programs that can help you connect with what is needed to be the elusive Cubicle Warrior. As always, your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
