When to Check Out
There is a time and a place for work. And a time and place to simply check out. For me, the check out time is May 26th and the check out place is Door County, WI.
No cell phones, no internet access, and no work involved. Restoration is required.
I don’t know about you, but I need restoration time. One of the things that has really been different about working eighteen years at Ameritech…SBC…the NEW AT&T…compared to where I work now is that at Ameritech, I had five weeks vacation plus holidays. I’d think nothing of taking a Friday off and just work around the house getting things done.
Or taking a Monday off to complete a good three day weekend.
But, in my current position, I get three weeks off. Period. And Costa Rica this year meant that I used eight of the fifteen days I get. Over half. And the deal is, Costa Rica was all about my hobby and included spending time with my buddies from the Cinco Nueve Contest Group which was great — but I only see them once or twice a year. That makes the whole trip not very restoring; at least to me.
So no restorative full week off since June of last year.
You can bet that I’m counting the days until the end of the month. Restoration while on vacation is no small deal.
I can’t wait.
