Employee Satisfaction Surveys

Employee Satisfaction SurveysHave you filled out your employee satisfaction survey yet? (Do you even get one…perhaps the next Poll on Cube Rules!). I just completed mine. It is very different than last year.

Last year, in spite of some decent communication by senior management, I was pretty negative about my company and the work going on there. Why? Many people were being laid off. When layoffs happen, it is often done in the name of “efficiency” or “reducing redundancy” or some other reason. Not a lot of connection between “efficiency” and the people being let go.

Real reasons? Yes. But, not very good sounding when it is your job on the line.

This year, it seems as though the worst is over when it comes to layoffs. This year, what happened last year seems now like the absolute right thing to have been done. Because this year everyone in our industry is doing what we did last year as it relates to layoffs and “efficiency gains.”

It’s reflected in my answers in this year’s employee survey.

How good is your leadership in reading the tea leaves of the future of your company? We often don’t see what is seen by senior leaders — and often, it is a good thing we don’t. But other times, those who get paid the big bucks are spot-on and worth every dime they are paid. This, in my company, seems to be one of those times.

I hope I’m reading the tea leaves right when it comes to my own position…
