Be like Bob Nardelli

WhoaStopSignI could write about CEO compensation every day, but it would get boring pretty fast. And after a while, I wouldn’t be able to maintain the emotional intensity necessary to do so because the outrageous compensation is so widespread (not all CEO’s are outrageously paid…but there’s enough).

But if I could be CEO of a corporation (say Home Depot), get fired, AND get compensated $210 million, I think I would do it. The deal is, to Bob, it’s not about the compensation. It’s about the power and the control of the corporation. But because of his failure to take a cosmetic pay cut after alienating every vital constituency of the company and stay on at Home Depot, the board fires him and he gets his just rewards — a whole lotta dough.

I’ve never been fired. But as a Cubicle Warrior, if I get fired, I’ll settle for a severance of only $10-million.

Cheap in comparison.

(end of snark)
